The libraries of Rochester, New York reflect their surrounding communities; suburban, urban, rural, wealthy to struggling. I started photographing these locations because I enjoy these spaces and have a passion for the physical object of the book. Documentation feels necessary when the book itself is threatened and the future of the library is uncertain. This series may be a request for funding, a veneration of our history, or a portrait of human behavior as we sort, order and categorize. Maybe this is a portrait of me as I archive and order these spaces with my camera.
This is an ongoing project. Check back for updates.
